You have 30 days from delivery to start a return. Contact us first for a return authorisation number – units sent back without one cannot be processed. If the engine is defective or we sent the wrong one, we cover freight both ways and refund or replace it in full. If you simply changed your mind, you pay the return freight and a 15% restocking fee, and the unit must come back uninstalled and in the condition it left us. Once we have it back and inspected, your refund is issued within 10 days of arrival, to the original payment method.
Once an engine or transmission has been installed, fired, or had fluids run through it, we cannot resell it and cannot take it back as a change-of-mind return. If an installed unit is faulty that is a warranty claim, not a return – and it is still covered. Do not install a unit you are unsure about; call us first.
This is where returns get expensive, so it is worth being plain about it. An engine costs as much to send back as it did to send out.
Change-of-mind returns carry a 15% restocking fee on the price of the unit. It covers re-testing, re-crating, re-photographing and re-listing the engine, which is real work every time a unit comes back through the door. The fee is deducted from your refund.
There is no restocking fee where the unit is defective, damaged in transit, or where we made the error. In those cases you are refunded in full including the original freight.
Do not ship anything back before you have spoken to us. Returns arriving without an authorisation number sit in our yard unidentified and cannot be credited.
Once you have a return number you can either send the unit back by freight, or bring it to our warehouse at 7188 Progress Way, Delta, BC during opening hours – Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00. Bringing it in yourself costs you nothing in return freight and we can inspect it with you at the counter.
We inspect every returned unit on arrival – normally within two business days – and email you the outcome. Approved refunds are issued within 10 days of the unit reaching us, to the original payment method. Card refunds then take a further 3 to 5 business days to appear on your statement, which is your bank's timing, not ours. Interac and bank transfers are returned to the account they came from.
Freight damage is handled differently from a return, and the deadline is tight because the carrier's claim window is tight. Inspect the crate with the driver present, write any damage on the delivery receipt before you sign, photograph the pallet from all four sides, and contact us within 48 hours. With the damage recorded we can open a carrier claim and either replace the unit from stock or refund it in full. A clean signature on the delivery receipt releases the carrier from liability and neither they nor we can recover the loss afterwards. Full detail is on the Shipping & Delivery page.
A return is for a unit you have not installed – wrong part, changed your mind, arrived damaged. A warranty claim is for a unit that has been installed correctly and then failed. The two have different rules, different paperwork and different remedies. If you are unsure which you have, call us and we will tell you honestly – it is usually the warranty route, and that is the better one for you. See the Warranty page for coverage, exclusions and the claim process.
Cancel free of charge any time before the unit is crated and collected – normally the first business day after payment clears. Once the shipment is on the truck it becomes a return and the rules above apply, including return freight. If you need to cancel, call 672 763 0632 rather than emailing; it is faster and the unit may already be on the forklift.
Call or text 672 763 0632, or email info@cowichansmallengines.ca with your order number. We would rather talk you out of the wrong engine than process a return on it.
Call, text or email with your order number and what is wrong. Photographs help, and for a fault we will ask what the engine is doing.
We issue a return authorisation number and tell you in writing who is paying the freight and what your refund will be.
Back on a pallet, wrapped and strapped, with the return number written on the outside. We send the carrier paperwork if the return is on us.
Normally within two business days of arrival. We email you the outcome either way.
Within 10 days of the unit reaching us, to your original payment method.
Yes, within 30 days and provided it is uninstalled and in original condition. You pay the return freight and a 15% restocking fee. Call us before you order next time – tell us your year, model and trim and we will confirm the right engine code free of charge.
Your choice of a replacement unit from stock or a full refund including the original freight, with no restocking fee. If it is already installed it is handled as a warranty claim, which is still covered.
Within 10 days of the unit reaching us, plus 3 to 5 business days for a card issuer to post it. Interac and bank transfers are usually faster.
Yes, always. Without one we have no way to tie a pallet in our yard to your order, and we cannot credit it.
Yes, and on a change-of-mind return we waive the 15% restocking fee if you take credit rather than cash.
The carrier will normally refuse the claim, which limits what we can recover. Contact us anyway – if the unit is genuinely unusable we will look at what we can do, but signing a clean receipt makes it much harder.
